Overview
(Key topics used in consideration: SCORM compliance, accessibility measures, storyboarding, prototyping, usability, visual design, and best practices when creating online learning)
Articulate Storyline 360 was used to create an RLO that is a part of a bigger training course for a retail business called Reverie Emporium.
The Purpose of the course to teach new shop staff how to use the Air Regi (Airレジ) P.O.S. system application for iPad and iPhone. This course is intended for new shop staff in our store and temporary staff working in our sales booth at events. They usually have some prior experience in retail. We hire people from many different nationalities and backgrounds, not just Japanese, to help us at the shop. Most staff can either speak and/or read Japanese to some degree. This will also be useful for those looking to review and refresh their knowledge of certain processes on the application. The available material to teach the app functionality was very sparse and only in Japanese, so it was expressed that a better way of training shop staff on the iPad register app was needed.
The instructional delivery for the course is Individual, self-paced, CBT combined with on-the-job training for guidance and practice. This RLO serves as a piece of the overall course for the CBT portion of the training.
I worked with the SME (the owner) to make sure the processes were correct and to double check translations since the app is entirely in Japanese. In the future, the fully developed course would be available in both English and Japanese.
The RLO:
Note: The RLO was the transaction tutorials, so choose [Tutorials] -> [Transactions] to review the RLO. The other choices won’t work yet as they are a part of the larger course.
Documentation of the process:
- Design Document
- Storyboard – a part of the appendix of the design document
- Usability Test
- Reflection Paper – contains explanation of the RLO design
